Winter Continues

When the sun shines the trees look like they're covered in sparking crystals, very pretty ,if you like that sort of thing...
The last few days have really been cold and miserable.  We’ve had a little snow, which is fine because that’s just the way it goes in January.  The part I don’t like is the wind and the ice storm that we were graced with a few days ago and the below zero temperatures.

Yesterday we thought it would be nice for the horses to go out a little later than usual because it was -5 and windy.  Did they appreciate the thought? Apparently not, getting to the barn at 8 instead of 6:30 they were slightly annoyed to say the least. Blue and Grady had grabbed everything on their doors, halters, lead ropes etc. and threw them in the aisle to show their displeasure.  The service from their humans left a much to be desired. They were fed and let out.  By the end of the day they had consumed three bales of hay and practically rushed the gate to be brought in.  Sometimes the humans do know best!

It seems to be warming up a little though.  This morning when I brought the dogs to the groomers it was way up to 9 degrees.  Honestly, I can’t wait for the rain and warmer temps tomorrow.

Quote for Today
You never get the pleasure of owning a horse; you only have the pleasure of being its slave.

  1. Great quote. And yes, horses are quite demanding task masters. When the clocks roll back you would think that starvation was imminent.

    1. Our herd could use a little select starvation right about now. They all look like tanks! But they whine they're cold if they don't get all the hay they can stuff down as fast as possible.

  2. Ice is sooo pretty to look at, not maneuver. I love winter, but not bitter cold and treacherous ice. Silly horses, they just don't get it until they can feel it. We are about to get blasted with snow (which I am excited about) and more bitter temps (which I am not excited about). Our animals are well cared for, but my heart aches for those less fortunate...

    1. I always feel bad for the animals who are abused or mistreated in any weather but winter is especially hard on them. Our horses don't realize how good they have it do they. Enjoy your snow and take some great pictures!

  3. You have really been hit! As has much of the continent east of the Rockies. Your quote is perfect!

    1. It's pretty but I'll take snow over ice, its easier to deal with.

    1. We're supposed to get rain tomorrow so I'm sure we'll have mud too. You just can't win.

  5. Oh ice on everything. From what I hear in this barn, weather is NO EXCUSE for lateness of meals, or any other activity that enhances equine comfort!

    1. So I've been made aware of. I told them if they didn't like the service they could just let it reflect in the tip after their meal!

  6. That ice is only pretty because I'm over here in my warm living room without it. *shiver* I don't mind the cold, but a big NO THANK YOU to ice like that. Eek!

    1. I don't mind the cold or snow so much either but ice is another story. It's dangerous to walk or drive on. Stay warm.

  7. Sorry to hear you're freezing your bums off there, BUT your pictures are amazing and oh, so beautiful!!! Vibrant blue against the sparkly white on the trees...sorry. :)
Oh, and that quote? Ain't that the truth!?

    1. It's very pretty especially when the sun shines the trees look like crystals. It looks gorgeous...from inside! Hopefully, the rain tomorrow will get rid of the ice on the driveway and warm things up a bit.

  8. Gorgeous photos but I know it has to be a mess with horses! I had to laugh at them tossing everything into the barn aisle - what a crew! They clearly don’t know they live in horse heaven! :) Hope you get relief soon. We are awaiting 60+ degrees tomorrow but the local weather folks just announced that first, tomorrow a.m., we may get freezing rain. Great. UGH! I’m officially ready for spring and I actually love wintertime!

  9. We're supposed to get rain today or tomorrow. I'll take it since it means warmer temps. Our herd is a tad spoiled and they like their routine to not be deviated from. They're kind of spoiled.

  11. I feel like I’m a slave to my house right now! I’ve barely had time to get to the barn. 😭 We have had a mild winter, but our horses still get pissy if we’re five minutes late at breakfast. I found Foxy Mama and Tweed in the breezeway one afternoon when I was 30 minutes late for dinner. I still don’t know how they got out. 😂
