March Update

Happy Birthday Blue!
The month of March hasn’t been one of my favorite months.  We had three Nor’easter’s in ten days and then another one the following weekend.  Tons of snow and wind and three more of my neighbor’s trees came down into my yard breaking the fence to make it even more special.  Spring has officially arrived, or so it says on the calendar.  The temperatures are warming up and the snow is almost completely melted.  There are some buds on the trees and sprouts of early Spring bulbs.

There’s not much going on with the horses, we’re all just waiting for the warmer weather and they’re waiting for more than a few patches of grass to appear.  They are as bored as we are.

Mr. Blue had a birthday yesterday, March 29th, he turned 21 .  Happy Birthday Blue! He’s always been our Mr. Cool and he still is, but it seems since he’s taken on the responsibility of being “Leader of the Pack” he has moments of being Mr. Grumpy old man.  Blue likes to push everyone off the hay now and has claimed Rosie as his harem of one.  She actually listens to him and hangs with him most of the day.

" Blue & Rosie"

Here are some pictures of The Month of March, mainly so I can remember how miserable it was and to remind me not to complain in the summer when the temperatures soar…

Ginger and Nikita loved romping in the snow

Until...

they manufactured "ice balls" that stuck to their under carriage! They were hard to get off too.

Quote for Today
You never appreciate Spring till you’ve been through a tough winter.

  1. GHM!! Hello! Missed your posts :) Happy Birthday, Mr Blue! Have to say, he and Rosie make a cute couple.

Oh Wow!!! What we had was nothing compared to you! Looks beautiful in the pictures, but I don't even want to imagine the reality. Shame the doggies' fun got spoilt. Here's hoping spring really is here and all that snow will soon be a distant memory.

    1. Hi Joy,
Good to hear from you. I hope to be posting more now that we’re not constantly shoveling and dealing with winter. It’s mostly melted.

  2. Happy birthday Blue ! You really got dumped on!! I am so happy it is melting for you. Isn’t it funny how their personalities change when the herd dynamics change. When you throw a new one in you never know what’s going to happen. Here’s to a lovely spring!

    1. Herd dynamics are very interesting. I don’t think Blue knows how to be a benevolent leader. A little power went straight to his head! But once the grass comes up and they’re not hanging at the hay baskets all day it should change again.

  3. It looks like you got more snow than we did! At this moment, ours is all gone but we have lots of mud and standing water. Let's hope that spring is just around the corner. Birthday greetings to Blue!

  5. Happy Birthday to your handsome boy! Beautiful snowy photos. Our area of WI got little to no snow, another strange winter. Too much of a good thing is not so fun tho, especially late in the season. Falling trees & broken fences sounds terrible, especially with all that white stuff. Snow must have been really wet to make those furballs - ouch! Hope you enjoy a pleasant, well-deserved Spring!!

    1. The snow was very wet and heavy.mi had to go knock it off the arborvitaes. Spring is finally here today. Going to be in the 50’s hope that sticks around for a while!

  6. Rosie looks quite satisfied to have 'won over' her very own loyal beau though, doesn't she?
You have a lot more snow than we had all winter, and that is not something I get to say usually because this area is mostly a snow belt (dry year, 2017 -- I wouldn't mind another dry year, trust me, it would not affect the crops). Those snowballs are much worse than real balls, so I'm told. hee hee I would be choked about the trees though; I am always sad to loose a beautiful old tree up near the buildings, yet I have no idea bow many crash down in the woods yearly on the quarter and don't bother me a bit, even when they all across a trail I just see it as the opportunity to jump until Mr Shoes decides he must 'do something about that'.
Hope Spring comes soon - I think we're all ready!

  7. Oh my, my, my...wow! You have a lot of snow! It is beautiful, BUT enough already! Yes you will be so ready for real spring weather to arrive. We've had temps in the upper 60's several times and many cooler, nice days too, but lots of rain and so that means mud too. But we have trees and flowers bursting forth in bloom and the horses are shedding like crazy. Soon my friend, very soon! Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

    1. Fingers crossed for better temps! We had 6 inches the day after Easter. Ridiculous. And some more snow and rain this morning. Again ridiculous. It’s got to get better as time marches on.
