"Blue" |
It’s hard to believe November is here and we are getting ready for the winter months ahead of us. I think it’s also about time I gave a short update on what’s been happening here. Don’t get excited there isn’t much to report. Blue is doing much better with his hoof issue so I’m happy about that. He was spotted cantering in the pasture the other day and so I will try and get him started in some limited work this weekend. We will start with some walking and see how he does in the indoor. The footing is much better there than in the outside arenas. I’ll post how he does next week.
Yesterday was Halloween and instead of getting treats I seem to have been tricked…royally! I had just let the dogs in when we all heard this huge crash. They started barking and I ran to the window to see what was going on. A huge tree from my neighbor’s yard had toppled into my side yard and taken out the fence. I’m relieved that the dogs weren’t still out because they play over there and they would have been squashed. It was so odd because there was no wind or rain. I guess it just couldn’t take the stress after the storms we had for the two days previous. Mega amounts of rain and wind howling most of the day and all night must have undermined the roots.
Here are some pictures:

All that hard work deserves a rest! |
Oh my! Trees toppling onto fences seems to be going around the blogosphere. This is the third I've heard of. We've been battling to keep a tree upright on our property. If it falls, it will dam up the arroyo and we'll have to deal with flooding. I'm glad that at least the dogs got some enjoyment out of it.
ReplyDeleteThe dogs seem to be the only ones having fun with the tree! I'm still trying to get someone to cut it up and take it out of here.
DeleteJeepers that's a big tree, do you know what kind of tree it is (curiosity)?
ReplyDeleteI look at the downed tree & think what a lot of nice firewood it might make - then I think that the neighbour by all rights should probably clean it up and fix your fence. I do hope they do that for you, and hope they offer you some of it too, if you can use it that is. So lucky it fell across only the yard (& no gorgeous doggies were hurt) rather than the paddock fence!
Glad to hear that Blue is feeling spry - looking forward to reading how a ride goes too.
Also - I envy your weather... it looks like my idea of perfect riding weather!
I think it's either a maple or an oak. My neighbor who is a cheap bast**d and a jerk hasn't even contacted me about it. I know he saw it and me and the dogs because I was out there taking pictures. He just went in the house like it didn't exist. There is a law here that says I would have needed to notify him that I thought the tree was rotted or dangerous and if anything happened he was responsible. Since I didn't (cause I didn't know the tree would fall) it's my problem not his. He's a pri*k. Not a word out of him and I'm kinda fuming. But I'll take care of it and the firewood if there is any salvageable will be mine. The rest may just be left in piles on his side of the fence for him to deal with.
DeleteYep, that's dangerous! Glad they were safely in the house, too. I love that picture of them on the leather sofa. Your dogs live the life!! Glad to hear Blue is recovering, too. His rehabilitation will give you something to do this winter in that wonderful indoor arena. I still can't believe it's already November!! I feel like decorating for Christmas. Is that appropriate now?
ReplyDeleteYeah, these dogs live in the Doggie Hilton. They are really spoiled rotten but that's okay.
DeleteI'm thinking about presents for the kids already and I start decorating a little before Thanksgiving a little at a time. So you could definitely start pulling out your decorations! I hope you decorate your new tack room too.
Good idea!
DeleteYou would really have to alert him? That seems ridiculous. But that looks like good firewood and lots of sticks for months of fun.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about that either but then my son-in-law told me about the law thing as I was fuming. So if he wants to be a jerk, so be it. I'll handle it myself.
DeleteThe same thing is happening around here. So saturated with rain a huge tree in our daughters yard is hanging over and will probably crash into her fence. Nice that you have made an entrance! I love your helpers and that last photo is something special!
ReplyDeleteI know, so much rain and wind the past few days. Thanks, they are quite a pair and such good helpers!
DeleteGlad Blue is doing better. T-Bone is back giving me fits.
ReplyDeleteWonder if you turn it in on your homeowners insurance if they'd go after his insurance... At least there will be a lifetime of sticks :-/.
I probably could go the insurance route but I’ll just pay it and be done with it. Insurance companies are always a hassle to deal with.
DeleteWell, I just asked on my blog if you had gotten any riding time in and I see you are busy with clean-up crews and trees!! I’m so sorry that happened and that the neighbor is ignoring it. I’m glad no one was hurt! I have to say, those two clean-up helpers are extremely gorgeous on that sofa!! What a pair! Glad they are there to help. And I’m also glad Blue is cantering around - sounds like he’s ready for some riding. Looking forward to hearing about it!
ReplyDeleteThey are a big help...not! I haven’t ridden yet but I just finished cleaning 8 saddles and girth’s,some bridles and stirrup leathers. So I should be set for a ride sooner than later! At least now we have clean tack.
DeleteWow that's a huge tree!! We had one fall on our fence too and the goats got out on the road! It was scary... I'm glad everyone is doing well. I've missed reading your blog. Sorry I'm been absent so long.
ReplyDeleteOh my, glad no one was hurt, that is one ginormous tree!! What an a**hat of a neighbour! Sorry you now have to deal with it :(
ReplyDeleteYour clean-up crew are the best looking I've seen, nice to see they're ready to help ;) Love the photo of them on the sofa, so beautiful. And glad to hear Blue is doing well, fingers crossed you'll get some riding in soon.
Thanks Joy. They are a big help to me...not. The tree is now officially cut up and cleaned out of here. The guys came yesterday. I'm hoping to take a spin on Blue soon.
DeleteGood to hear from you! What would we do without our little "helpers"? #Firewood :)
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for little helpers! If it weren't for them there wouldn't be sticks strewn all over the lawn!
