We’ve
officially managed to do a decent job of grooming the herd. They don’t look like wooly beasts anymore
thanks to lots of currying, brushing and the shedding blade. Our Vet was here
Friday and they all got some of their Spring shots. The dentist will be here Monday. I’ve started cleaning the barn from top to
bottom. Cob webbing is not one of my
favorite things. You’d be amazed at how much dust builds up in the loft, and on
walls, corners and ceiling fans in a barn over the winter. When I was done I looked like one of the
horses after a good roll in the dirt.
Gunnar
(the pup) is doing very well after his surgery.
He met up with our resident fox last night that was in the small pasture
on the side. There was a lot of barking
and they simply stared at each other for a while. Once we investigated the barking and found
out what all the commotion was about, Gunnar was told it was okay and how brave
he was. Then he went and found his “lambie”
for extra protection and everything settled down.
Here
are a few pictures of some of the grooming victims:
|
Blue - "Oh no, just how many brushes do you have in that box!" |
|
Glad that's over with. |
|
Sami - Is this the cutest little guy ever? |
|
He sure is the sweetest. |
|
Nate - " I'll put my ears up when I start enjoying myself" |
|
O'Grady - " I seem to have this pouffy dandelion forelock thing going on" |
|
But just as handsome as ever |
|
Donnie - "Umm, I could use another treat, that was exhausting" |
|
Dusty - "I'm not sure this is the fashion statement I want to make for the Spring" |
|
Just look at that face, I'd say she's pretty mad at me right about now. |
|
Hi, it's me Gunnar! Don't know why I'm on a leash, I wasn't digging again...really. |
|
Posing for "PLAYDOG MONTHLY" |
|
"C'mon Maggie, lets play with my new rubber chicken toy" |
|
" I'm a lady, I don't play with rubber chickens. He's such a little pest" |
|
Looking this sad ought to get someone to play with me. |
|
Milo - The original Grumpy Cat who hates both dogs and is never done hissing and growling at them. |

Quote for Today
Animals are such agreeable friends - they ask no questions,
they pass no criticisms.
George Elliot
Your barn is beautiful and I love the layout inside! You should do a post on a "tour" of it some day :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the photos of your horses - they all look so happy.
Thanks Cathryn. I'm sure nobody would be interested in a tour of our barn. It's just six stalls with a grooming stall (where Sami lives) and a wash stall and tack room. There's a loft upstairs and some storage rooms.
DeleteAll of our horses seem to be very happy. They don't have to do a lot of work and they are pampered. Although, they probably don't get as many treats as they think they deserve.
What a glorious clan of buddies you've got there.
ReplyDeleteThanks! They are the Magnificent Seven! I love them all and they really are very friendly and happy.
DeleteIt must have taken a long time to make those ponies look that good! Until it warms up, I am not into doing the serious spring cleaning that is needed in the barn. Gunnar and kitty look adorable.
ReplyDeleteHi Lori,
DeleteI managed about two horses a day. The barn needs so much more cleaning it's hard to know where to start. So I picked the worst job first to get it out of the way.
Mine are almost finished shedding out - still bits and spurts. We're supposed to hit the 70s later next week . . .
ReplyDeleteHi Kate,
DeleteI'd say they're not completely done shedding either but at least we got a lot of hair off. Mother Nature can do the rest.
The look on Milo's face makes me laugh! Glad Gunnar is doing well. Great commentary, our animals sure do keep us smiling with different lovable personalities!!!
ReplyDeleteIt always amazes me how each animal has a different personality. They do keep a smile on my face and make each day fun.
Deletethey're looking good!! it makes me so sad that it's muzzle season again... we haven't started putting one on my mare bc she's only on grass for a couple hours right now... but her days are numbered, poor thing!
ReplyDeleteDusty and Sami hate their muzzles but it's for their own good. I used to hate when my mother used to say that to me, but she was right.
DeleteLove this post! They're all such characters. And Sami is such an adorable little darling, I could just give him a hug :) You're right, Dusty does not look at all impressed with her 'fashion statement'. Maybe that's what I need ...
ReplyDeleteGunnar has grown! Glad to hear he's doing well. Ah, glad 'lambie' is there for him ;) Maggie's looking good too. As for Milo - his expression is on a par with Gordon's diva of a tabby.
Thanks Joy, they are all so different. Sami loves attention and hugs so if you're ever over here feel free to stop by and spoil him!
DeleteIt's so good to see all your critters again!! They all look like they've managed the winter well...and yes, Sami is just adorable! But they're all beautiful and unique aren't they? Gunnar has grown so much, hard to believe! Glad to hear he's doing so well after that surgery.
ReplyDeleteLoved the shot of Milo...he's a very dignified puss, and I'm sure he can't be bothered by those lower than his standards. :)
Poor, poor Dusti! I really should put one of those muzzles on Missy, but I haven't the heart to do it. Poor girl, some of us are easy keepers...
Hi Lorie,
DeleteWe think they're all very sweet. I feel bad putting the muzzle on Dusty too but I can't have her get laminitis again. I think the muzzle is why she gives me such a hard time. ;)
Gunnar is so beautiful. I bet your horses loved getting that shed hair off!! They look great!
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda. Gunnar is a cutie.
DeleteHappy days! Love seeing the herd and dogs and Milo. :) Similar story here. There is animal hair everywhere!!
ReplyDeleteHairy beasts! I'm hoping the shedding is done soon for all of us.
DeleteSami does look like the sweetest, and O'Grady's forelock! LOL!
ReplyDeletePoor Grady. Don't know why it poufed like that.
ReplyDeleteYou make me feel guilty. My guys still are not shedded out. I'm working on it, but there is so much hair!
ReplyDeleteMy guys aren't totally shed out yet either. The hair right now is never ending.
DeleteThey all look gorgeous! (Especially Sami-oh those eyes!) You've put me to shame, since the girls are still shedding like crazy and I've been lazy. Can't wait to meet Gunnar, and btw, the Creamery is open. Don't we deserve some ice cream?
ReplyDeleteSami is adorable, thanks. I'm ready for some ice cream, don't know if my waistline can handle it though!
Deletehaha - grooming victims. My older horse Stormy looooooves scratching, and rubbing all over but you think he'd like being brushed or curried? No! HATES it! go figure.
ReplyDelete- The Equestrian Vagabond
Well, maybe Stormy just likes a more up close and personal touch with fingers instead of brushes.
DeleteHi there!🐴 looking so good, all those horsey people! I'm locked out of my blog, since my email it is tethered to (Goohle-mootle) said NO. So just Bit of Smart phone paroosing. Miss everyone. May try to start a different blog.. I do post daily at INSTAGRAM. ...The mare is there.she's 20 this year🐴 take care
ReplyDeleteHi there right back at ya! Hope to hear from you on blog posts soon. Maybe try Wordpress? I can't follow you on Instagram sorry. I don't do Facebook or any of that stuff. Glad to hear the mare is doing well. Wish her a happy birthday from me.
DeleteLooks like everyone is just happy to be out in the sunshine and warm sun without icebergs to trip over and on. We all need our lambies for protection, my teddy bear has been on the job since I was 2 years old.
ReplyDeleteHi Diane,
ReplyDeleteGood to hear from you! Gunnar loves his lambie though I'm not sure how long it will last. It gets a lot of chewing action. Luckily, we have more waiting in the wings.
