Back To Normal

All is well once again and back to normal here at the farm.

It was about five o'clock in the afternoon and I was attempting to remove some of the more

persistent weeds by dragging the ring in the back field.  Of course, around here you can't do any

job without input from the herd.

What's she doing now?
"Who cares"
" Hope she leaves this grass up here for us"
" Don't worry Sami, I'll stand guard"
"Just keep eating Nate and she won't soak your foot again"
" What is that noisy contraption"

"Hello, I think you missed a spot"
"Forget it Donnie, she's never gonna get rid of those weeds"

Until next time

May the horse be with you.

    2. P.s. I'd like to visit your blog and leave comments but I don't subscribe to Google + so that sort of limits my access to your blog. I've tried to leave a comment but without joining I can't.

    3. Really? I didn't realize. Let me see if I can fix that, and I will get back to you.
      Thanks for the heads up.

    4. It could just be me and my nonexistent/ limited computer skills too ;)

    5. No I went in and looked at the setting and think I saw what the problem was. One click should have fixed it. Let me know if it didn't work.

  2. Beautiful scenery, beautiful horses! I like Blue's attitude! :-)

    1. Hi Wolfie,

Blue does have that "who cares- nothing bothers me" attitude. He makes me smile a lot just because he's the " lone wolf" of the herd and thinks for himself and does exactly as he pleases.

  3. Gotta love the snoopervisory personnel...or is that horsennel? I love the captions. I think you got the comments perfectly.

The darn drags just don't seem to get the weeds, I fear. What amazes me is how anything will grow in the footing. Just proves how nature wants to take over every inch of the world given half a chance.

This was a great photo essay! Loved how you made a simple job into such entertainment. Obviously it was entertaining for the horses as well. *lol*

    1. Hi Jean,

Thank goodness for my "snoopervisory committee of opinionated horsennel"! I love those terms by the way. I'm thinking about renaming weeds as flowers and then they would be the sought after plants everyone wants instead of the dreaded weeds. The next step will be to spray them. I read somewhere that a mix of half white vinegar and half water kills everything off. If not i guess it will taste like a giant marinated salad...

  4. What cracked me up about this post is you are pulling weeds and taking pictures. I do the same thing. No matter what I am doing in the yard, it seems the horses are around and if I have my phone, I get sidetracked watching them & taking pictures of them! Love this post!

    1. You do sound like me. Maybe we have AAD (adult attention deficient) or whatever it's called. I always get sidetracked by the horses because they make me laugh.

  5. So pretty. If I had a farm that gorgeous I'd have a hard time staying focused on weed pulling too!

    1. I really despise all the weeds around here. I wish the horses would just eat them or stomp them out.

  6. Love your tiered downbanks! Hadn't seen those on your blog before. Could I ask about your footing? We use a mix of sand and rubber-so it drains really well- but yours is far darker- do you use rubber? I'd love to add more springiness to our footing this summer...

    1. Hi Corinna,

The banks are interesting they were already in place when we bought the farm. There are some more coming out of the trails in the back too. Nate actually jumped out onto them while being lunged once.

The footing sounds the same as yours. There is a sand base and a rubber layer on top.

    1. Thanks Carol. The herd are a happy bunch and possibly a tad spoiled. My husband says soon they'll be requesting Tempurpedic mattresses in their stalls.

She got home Monday night! We were all very happy to see her including the horses. But you're right I could use a rest.

  12. Love seeing your herd out enjoying their beautiful fields! Isn't it funny that we're always working and they're always eating. :) Out my window right now: painted pony with a mouthful of hay.

    1. Thanks billie. I only hope they appreciate how much work it is to keep them in the lap of luxury. It always strikes my funny how people when they hear you have horses assume you sit and watch them all day while sipping Mint Juleps. I'd like to show them how glamorous it is when I'm covered in shavings, dust, manure etc. after mucking out seven stalls!

  13. Gorgeous as always!! And blue skies!!! At the moment the rain is lashing down here and we're still having the heating come on for a couple of hours morning and evening ... Ah, the British spring ;o)
What a bunch of busybodies *lol* Except for Blue, got his priorities right I see.

They love their grass too! The down side is it ends to be mowed every other week.
