Storm Update

Thought I'd post a quick update on how we're faring after Hurricane Sandy.  We have lots of

downed trees and some sections of fence are also down.  Luckily, we had enough temporary

fencing to put up so there will be no escapees.  The horses are all doing fine as are the two

dogs.  We still have no power but are working off the generator.  No tv, phone or internet

either.  This pioneer adventure is getting old and I understand we are not a priority when so

many others are worse off but I still am hoping for power sooner than later.

The worst part of the whole adventure so far has been the fact that we were literally trapped

in the house.  Giant hemlocks came down blocking the road on either side of our driveway.

We couldn't make a right or left onto the road.  When the trees fell they took the power lines

and transformer down with them.  Wednesday the crew cleaned up the trees which released

the power lines,  they sprang up to about four feet off the ground.  Still blocking an exit out

of the driveway.  There was no way a car was fitting under them.  We decided to take a

section of fence out and our neighbor let us drive across his front lawn to his driveway and

road.  My husband had to get to work so we were very grateful our neighbor is a nice guy.

This morning we lucked out and the line crew has the lines up so we're not trapped anymore.

That's all the news for now.  I have lots of pictures but no way to put them on the post.  I'm

working from my iPad and there is no way to access the pictures from my computer to here

without internet (as far as I know anyway).  Hope everyone is doing well and hanging in

there.

Until next time

  8. The coast and areas up north definitely got the brunt of Sandy's force. I am glad that you are okay and hope that things are back to normal soon. The downed power lines are very dangerous. I am glad that you were able to find another route off the property.

  9. We definitely got hit hard this time. I haven't checked but I think the power lines are up on the poles again, still no power but at least we can get out. They've got lots of crews working. We had about ten guys working one side of the road from Jacksonville, Fla. So they have crews from all over the country here.

    1. Even though it is frustrating to deal with the most important thing is that everyone is safe and unhurt.

  12. When you see the devastation a natural disaster can cause it makes you realise how vulnerable we really are. I'm so glad you're all ok.

    1. It's amazing how Mother Nature can let you see and feel how vulnerable you really are. I'm just glad she decided to not hang around longer.

  13. So happy you are all ok and the sweet horses too! I am hoping you get your power back soon. What a horrible circumstance to be in - stuck at home isn't too bad - stuck at home without power is the pits! Good luck - hope it isn't much longer.

    1. Thanks Juliette,
I'm sure we will be up and running soon. It's the pits but it could be worse. We could live by the water and be under water.

  14. Boy did you get hit! I feel so lucky that we never lost power and had minimal damage. Glad that all the critters got through it and you had a generator. I look forward to seeing your photos. Please keep us posted.

  15. This is the resilience we have and taking out part of your fence along with the cooperation of your neighbors means survival, if not comfort. Hope your power is back super soon!

  18. Glad you are okay! I was thinking about you and your crew. Things still a little crazy down here, but at least I got power. And good thing you have spare fencing. We lost so much I got to go on an adventure and try and find some for Gen's barn. I hope you get power back soon. We just got ours back last night and I live in a town. The barn is a few days away still from getting it back.

    1. Thanks for thinking of us. Glad to hear you're ok and have power. We used the tape for fencing on tha metal stakes. It works well. Maybe you could find that at an Agway?
