This, That and Those

Well, for starters it seems that Blue is feeling a little better.  The OSPHOS "might" be working.  He looks like he’s walking better and is more comfortable.  I haven’t ridden him yet and I take the blame solely on my shoulders.  It’s just been too hot and I’m not a summer person.  When temperatures are in the 90’s with humidity to match I’d rather not ride. I’m sure the horses appreciate standing under their fans in the run- in sheds to cool off and try to hide from the insects too.  If I were a horse and someone decided it was a good idea to put a saddle pad, saddle and rider on my back I might not agree. So when the weather cools a little we will start back together.

My friend Linda at Beautiful Mustang had a book giveaway that I won.  Color me surprised because I’ve seldom won anything.  The book is:
Zen Mind - Zen Horse, by Allan J. Hamilton, MD.  It’s about the science and spirituality of working with horses.  I’ve just started reading it and it is very interesting.  Thank you Linda!

July 26th brought about another birthday…ugh! But since I choose to ignore birthdays anymore it’s not such a big deal.  I received some wonderful gifts and I absolutely love these grooming gloves.  They are great for bath time and I’ve found my arms don’t get so weary using them.

Ginger the pup is now 6 months old and doing well.  She’s growing so fast and actually starting to listen most of the time.  And we are finally potty trained!  I know this because she has a habit of jumping on my head and licking my face at 6 a.m. every morning when she needs to go out.  But that’s okay, I’d rather take a lick on the face than…well you know.

Until next time

  2. Well Happy Birthday!!! Hope yours was wonderful and you ate some cake. :) Just think, the alternative to NOT having birthdays isn't so great...
great news that the OsPhos might be helping Blue - keeping my fingers crossed!
And Ginger has grown so very much - and my, doesn't she look elegant and comfy on your bed!? Wish all pooches had such a loving family.
So good to hear from you again - we're having a weird summer. Some thru the roof hot days and many more than normal, coolish and yesterday and today, rain. Go figure!

    1. I realized after I put it up "this and that" that you had the same title on your post. And since my brain doesn't function when I'm tired I couldn't think of anything better. hope you find the book, if not when I'm done I could lend it to you.

  5. I don't like riding in the heat either! We've had a very cool summer this year and I'm not complaining. So happy you got the book. It has changed the way I use my energy around the horses. I'm much more thoughtful and forward in my actions. My big takeaway from it is that horses rely so much on that energy of intent in a herd, and they need it from us, too. Ii can't wait to hear what you take away from it! I'm going to be looking for a pair of those gloves!

  6. Enough of this heat! The only place to be is in a pool. Your pup looks gorgeous.

    1. If I had a pool I'd be in it all day! As it is I'm doing a rain dance every day! We really are in a drought.

  7. So glad Blue is doing better. And happy belated birthday!! I love those gloves and the book looks interesting! I'm with you re: riding in the heat. Keil Bay says 4 hooves up to the plan to wait 'til the season shifts and the horseflies die out. :)

    1. Hi billie,
I do like the gloves.Tell Keil Bay I agree with his 4 hooves up and will wait for a shift in the weather before torturing Blue.

  8. Happy belated birthday! I know what you mean, I don't see mine as a big deal anymore. I like the look of those gloves, might make for a satisfying massage. And the book sounds interesting - congratulations on winning.

Glad to hear Blue's feeling better. But ugh! Those temperatures!! Too, too uncomfortable. And that's coming from someone who grew up in Malaysia with high temps AND humidity - 'continual state of inelegance' indeed!! The only part of me that benefitted was my hair, all glossy and curly!

Ginger is so adorable! Love the pose :)

Wishing you cooler, more comfortable weather soon!

    1. Thanks Joy! You're lucky you have curly hair, mine just falls flat. If these temps keep up it's all coming off.

  11. That first photo is gorgeous - what a luscious field and so reminiscent of pastures I knew in Michigan (very different here in California)

  12. I agree about not riding in the heat, that's for sure. Osphos seemed to have helped my Chance's navicular. It did take over a month though. Good stuff.

Wishing you and Blue well as the weather changes to something we can all love.
