An Amusing Incident

Poor Nate
Or not, depending on your perspective.  The horses were fed this morning and left in their stalls while my daughter went to fill the hay nets outside for the day.  When she got back to the barn Nate was crashing his feed tub rather violently with his nose and dumping grain onto the floor then eating it.  Now that’s not a usual behavior for Nate so she thought it best to investigate.
Seems there were poop balls in his feed tub and he was trying to get his grain out and onto the floor because it was too gross to try and eat around it.  Nate has never once pooped in his bucket or water so it was a safe bet this wasn’t his doing.  Upon further inspection of the area it was discovered that there was in fact some squished manure in the metal bars separating the stalls.  Seems O’Grady decided to gift Nate with a morning surprise.

We’re fairly sure this was not a random accident because Grady really had to angle himself just so to get aligned with the ‘sweet’ spot in the corner above Nate’s bucket.  Grady is usually the sweetest horse in the world and would never challenge Nate in the pasture but who knows what goes on once the lights are turned out.

O'Grady  (The culprit)
Our best guess is that Nate was up all night coughing with his respiratory condition and interrupted Grady’s beauty sleep. This morning in front of Nate’s stall there was a wad of green snot, so he may have a cold.
Memo to Mr. O’Grady: cranky and tired is still no reason to poop in a friend’s breakfast.
"I'm sorry Nate, I won't do it again"
Poor Nate, I heard he looked so sad and down this morning as if to say “ I’m having a really bad day and it’s only morning!”

Until next time

Quote for Today
The grass is always greener on the other side…until a horse comes and poops on it!

  1. Such a soap opera, or was it a poop opera?

  2. Sounds like Grady has some real Olympic moves you didn't know about. I think it's so funny how Nate was able to get his point across that things were not right in his world. Smart boy! I'm glad they made up.

    1. Luckily, I don't think Nate holds a grudge. He just deals with the situation and moves on with his day.

  3. I once had a cat who absolutely despised my soon to be ex. We broke up very soon after the cats arrival. On the exes first (and only) visit post-breakup, kitty peed right in the center of the "guest" pillow, and filled one of his shoes with poop.

    1. That's very funny. Guess the cat was a good judge of character?

  4. The grass is greener BECAUSE the horse pooped on it. Just don't eat it until a human scoops it up and it rains some.

  5. Oh my goodness - poor Nate! Now, coming at this from a totally different angle - I have read that in the wild sick horses will sometimes eat other horses manure b/c it can actually repopulate their gut with the bacteria they need to heal. And sometimes manure from healthy horses is actually given to sick horses to help them. Sooooo..... maybe you have a DR. O'Grady on your hands. :) Sounds like Nate did not agree with this treatment plan, though. Here's to Nate's recovery and O' Grady putting those fancy moves in the arena and not in the stall! :) What is the equipment in the background? Hope not related to more issues with water stuff!

    1. That's another way to look at it. I don't think Nate was in the mood to thank Dr. O'Grady though.

The machine is there until it stops snowing and the workers can finish the job they started in the catch pen. We are having the loose dirt scraped up and gravel put down where they churn it up into boot sucking mud as they're eating from the hay nets. The job was half done and then we got so much snow they couldn't finish. So far the plumber has fixed Nate's waterer but is having problems with Dusty's getting parts etc. so things are getting better a little at a time.

  6. But Nate can't help it! He would much prefer not to cough.

Harley once pooped in his feed bucket and this was when it used to be mounted up on the wall. I had just acquired him and he was still eating horse chow instead of the senior feed enjoyed by the rest of the barn. I am certain that he was making a statement.

    1. We know Nate didn't do it but Grady was definitely making a statement. They are very opinionated aren't they.

    1. Nate is feeling better today. Grady is a character but then again they all are.

  10. Poor Nate. I don't care if it was justifiable retaliation on O'Grady's part. It was simply "rude" as my Tucker would say. And, it makes a mess for Mom to clean up too. I guess that's the part Mr. O'Grady neglected to remember. *G*

    1. Tucker would be right, it is rude. And there's nothing like washing out a bucket on a very cold morning too.

  12. Oh no, poor Nate!! Not a good morning at all, poor guy. Couldn't stop laughing though, it was just too funny especially as I could 'see' it so clearly, thanks to your wonderful description. O'Grady the contortionist! Who knew? *lol* Glad they're still friends.
